I had been to Phoebes before, and from this was aware that it is the type of bar the encompasses everything that I hate in a bar. Loud, shitty club music, overpriced drinks, excessive darkness, and excessive crowds. Basically a Murray Hill Bar transported to the LES; all they did was switch out the neon signs for some old glossed wood. So when I went to Phoebe's Saturday night for my friend Jessica’s birthday party, I didn't have high hopes.
Well, I'm happy to report that despite all of Phoebe's shortcomings, the night was quite a lot of fun. Our group found a nice spot in the back that wasnt too crowded and proceeded to 'get our drink on'. The crowd was a good mix of ‘Cuse alumni and 'others' (although the others were pretty cool in this instance I will admit). Everyone had a good time celebrating Jessica’s birthday, and with the right mix of people, I would consider going back again (well not really unless I get to 200 bars with a while to spare).
