I'm lumping these two bars together because I stopped in to each one for a quick drink after exiting rodeo bar.

The Black Bear Lodge tries to play itself off as a Wyoming hunting lodge that someone mysteriously got transported to Murray Hill. With their fake wood panelling and and backwater signage they were successful in being cliche if nothing else. However, I will say that this bar dominated the “Big Buck Hunter” scene, with not one, not two, but three copies of the game. This bar really didnt do it for me and nothing really happened except that I realized that Big Buck hunter is a vicious game. It involves taking a shot gun and shooting deer in the face multiple times at close range with staggering realism as they topple over into helpless heaps. Made me ponder my meat consumption for like 2 seconds. Then I left and went next door to….

The Copper Door Tavern is a typical Irish bar. Standard pub food, cheap drinks (3 bucks for happy hour), and a decent atmosphere. Nothing of consequence happened at this bar except for the fact that Jeff and I saw a guy steal someone’s tab off the bar. Someone paid their bill, left their 18 bucks or whatever the price was, and then left. Jeff and I then took over these seats. After sitting their for about 5 minutes, and paying for our first round, a random guy came over and asked if the money was ours. We said no, and continued to watch as he took that money and ordered a round. We were then shocked to see him take the tab from the bar and pay for his round of drinks with it.

He probably thinks he was being sneaky and shit, but make no mistake, Jeff and I saw him do this. We contemplated telling the bartender, but the thief was a HUGE jersey dude, and probably would have SNOOKIED and I was going out later and didnt want that to happen.

Nothing really special about either of these bars and it was time to go to Union Square and meet Mariel and her friends at the Pour House.
